Research Experience: Ecology and Oceanography of Harmful Algal Blooms in the Pacific Northwest (ECOHAB-PNW) - Project Web Site
Research Objectives: Study the physiology, toxicology, ecology and oceanography of toxic Pseudo-nitzschia species off the Pacific Northwest coast. (The study area includes both an eddy and also a typical coastal upwelling region.) Examine the key factors that are responsible for high densities of the toxic algae. Determine the biophysical mechanisms of Pseudo-nitzschia advection to the coast.
Research funded by: NOAA Coastal Ocean Program and the National Science Foundation (Division of Ocean Sciences)
Host Researcher: Vera Trainer - NOAA Northwest Fisheries Science Center
