Research Experience: Impacts of eddies & mixing on biogeochemical cycling in the Sargasso Sea - Project Web Site
Research Objectives: The biological productivity of the ocean is limited by nutrient availability. Ocean eddies may enhance the vertical mixing of nutrients. As part of a study of nutrient variations into the sunlit zone in ocean eddies, a chemical tracer that allows the movement and dispersion of the water to be followed is released into ocean. The tracer patch will be sampled five weeks after its release to measure transport and vertical mixing.
