Research Experience: Sumatra Earthquake and Tsunami Offshore Survey (SEATOS)
Research Objectives: Exploration of the seafloor off the coast of Sumatra to better understand the forces that led to the 2004 Asian tsunami. Survey the seabed (using geophysical survey tools, a deep-water remotely operated vehicle, and high-resolution cameras) to locate and image critical locations where the seabed moved and generated the tsunami.
Research funded by: National Science Foundation, Alfred P. Sloan Foundation for the Census of Marine Life Program, Oceaneering Inc, BP Marine Limited and Science Application International Corporation (SAIC)
Host Researcher: Kate Moran - URI Graduate School of Oceanography
