Research Experience: | Long-Term measurement of physical, chemical, and biological water column properties in the South Florida coastal ecosystem. |
Research Objectives: | Shipboard surveys of the South Florida coastal region from Miami to the Tortugas and northward to Charlotte Harbor on the west Florida shelf. Salinity, temperature, current velocity/ADCP, transmittance, chl_a and CDOM fluorescence will be continuously measured. Discrete surface samples for pigments, cell counts, suspended solids, and nutrients will also be taken. These surveys will help determine the broad spatial patterns of circulation, water mass properties and both dissolved and particulate chemical and biological constituents during different seasons, and will help to quantify volume transports through the open boundaries of Florida Bay. |
Research funded by: | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and US Army Corps of Engineers |
Host Researchers: | Peter Ortner, Libby Johns, and Ryan Smith - NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory |
