Research Experience: Conducting an East-West Atlantic transect to investigate the coupling between atmospheric and oceanic organic pollutants.
Research Objectives: The purpose of the cruise is to (a) detect concentrations of organic pollutants in air and water of the North Atlantic, and (b) derive whether the atmosphere is still delivering these pollutants to the Atlantic Ocean, or if ocean and atmosphere have reached an equilibrium distribution. This information will help us better understand how much longer some of these banned chemicals are going to be of concern, and how efficient oceans are in sequestering organic compounds.
