Research Experience: | Law of Sea Mapping of the Chukchi Sea (USCGC HEALY) |
Research Objectives: | To map unknown regions of the Arctic seafloor off the Chukchi Cap north of 85N to better determine the possibility of an extended continental shelf under the Convention on the Law of the Sea. A multibeam echo sounder is the primary tool being used to accomplish this task. The seafloor mapping data collected will also help to better understand the seafloor processes, map fisheries habitats, and be used in climate and circulation models to help predict future conditions in the Arctic. |
