data | hook | main | background & resources | student

Hook
You will work in groups of 4-5 and use the Internet to locate and choose an Antarctic field station. You will collect and record its weather data. You will organize the data in a logical order, graph the data using an appropriate graph and interpret the data.

Materials

  • Each group of 4 to 5 students will need:
  • access to the Internet
  • recording paper for weather data
  • colored pencils or markers
  • graph paper
  • poster paper
  • Outdoor weather station in a sheltered region on the school grounds (optional)

    Procedure

    Discussions Questions/Extensions ......

  • Are there "trends" in temperature that you see between home and the Antarctic?
  • Does the temperature decrease at the same time? Increase? Go in opposite directions? What might be the explanation for the trends that you see?
  • Do all Antarctic stations show similar trends? Compare and contrast the data from different stations.
