Type of Interaction / Outcomes / Dates / Locations / Parcticipants: Poster presentation at their annual meeting visiting of all reserch groups again

  • contacts with new members of the group, i.e. Pauline Robers, to be employed at South Pole
  • data and material supply of radiation group and CO2 group, UV meter research with UV group at CMDL, suggestion of a type of UV meter for the class room
  • Contact with John Miller ( WMO), supply of ozone posters and booklets for ozone day in September
  • DIscussing visit of scientis to class room, possible May or September near international ozone day
  • Poster presentation of class room ozone research to 150 Scientists of the CMDL lab.

    How are you sharing your research experience with your colleagues, district, community, etc? - attending research lectures - laboratories activites designed to use ozone research and activity , with data collected from South Pole - use of temperature activity - use of other TEA activities: i.e. Adaptations of Polar bear, Coring activity - mentoring research projects within the class room: UV influence ob Bacterial growth - mentoring independend research with students for their IB diploma: 6 different topics this year - mentoring write up of their 4000 word research paper

    OUTCOME: - great enthusiasm and poster presentation in school - parcticipation in city science fair, finalists and - parcticipation of state wide science fair

    Activities Development

    Title: Ozone Activity

    Description:
    this is a plotting activity where students conduct anual and seasonal ozone data comparison of data collected at the SOuth pole from October 1967, Oct. 98, and January 99.

    Title: Temperature in the atmosphere over the Antarctica

    Description:
    Students are plotting the temperature changes from theEarth's suface to an Altitude of 34 Km and can observe and discuss the reason for the dramatic changes.

    Title: UV influence on yeast and bacterial growth

    Description:
    a) bacterial growth: trial experiements with grade 11 ans 12, further trial nesessary , ordered different UV lamps b) with yest. Trila experiments with mentee Ellaine on the way to modify for use in grade 5.

    Boot Hosting at all NSTA's

    Personal development: presentation to an international audience and parcticipating in a divers life proad casting with CANADA, learning about new Techniques of life communication for ecology using cellphone.
