Continued Collaboration with Research Team Members

Type of Interaction / Outcomes / Dates / Locations / Parcticipants: As an extension of the field experience, I collaborated at PI's institution to help develop the secondary education component of a STC proposal. The STC proposal did not find funding, but the collaboration continues to work on the educational outreach associated with new research efforts. I look forward to working on future projects. I communicate regularly with my PI and members of the research group to follow the progress of their efforts and get the clarification I need to strengthen my understanding of the research that I might better relate it to others. I continue to seek out the interaction of scientist and student , over the net or otherwise.

4/00 Scheduled to present "Cool Characteristics: Properties of Ice and Atmosphere" with Sandra Kolb at NSTA. Hour presentation designed as a collection of activitieson Antarctic weather and astronomy

Hosted 2 conferences with classes at Lebanon High School for Q and A, sharing of digital slides of South Pole environs (Microsoft Netmeeting software)

Conducted 3 conferences with faculty /staff of Lebanon High School to share polar environs and to coordinate efforts on class sessions.

Conducted 1 conference with Lebanon High School faculty /staff from PI's institution to learn how to establish link for future work between the school district and the university

Prior to the field experience we tried CU-SeeMe software sessions from Lebanon High School , but had difficulty with the reception. We experimented with other software and found at that time NetMeeting was easier to manage.

In the classroom, work continues to collaborate with teachers at the elementary, middle and high school levels within our district and others to develop polar studies in our curricula.

Added to astronomy curriculum: AMANDA; also, students have presented planetarium shows on auroras and constellations of the southern hemisphere. Halos have been added to meteorology. Ice properties and movement, Antarctic fossils to geology. Activities on these areas are starting small, but are building momentum through class discussion/demonstrations, use of the Internet and mini-labs; look to add other TEAs’ work in oceanography and all fields.

Continue work on the Ice Depth vs. Temperature activity begun at TEA Activities Workshop
