2. Community / Colleague Outreach

Classroom Transfer

How are you sharing your research experience with students? Arctic and Antarctic lessons are integrated into my 8th grade science curriculum. Students investigate Antarctic ice sheet core data as they investigate the geologic time scale. I used the "Ice Cores are a piece of cake" lesson from the TEA lesson plans. Students study the importance of glaciers during the study of the hydrologic cycle. Students research Arctic animals and their adaptations for survival in the extreme cold. Students compare Arctic environment to personal environment. Students will plot longitude and latitude coordinates to follow the course traveled during the research experience. I have shared pictures with the students from the training session in Alaska. Students followed the training sessions with the substitute teacher via the web site journals during the training session.
