Additional Comments: As I stated in the 2002 Annual Report, I had a terrific field experience. I worked with a wonderful team of people and we continue to stay in touch.

My journal is complete in terms of my field experience, but I would like to be able to add to it when an entry seems appropriate.

Continued Collaboration with Research Team Members

Type of Interaction / Outcomes / Dates / Locations / Parcticipants: Thomas Whittaker and Amber Hawkins and I email each other regularly and sometimes phone. On March 24th, Tom came to Rockland to talk to my sixth grade classes. It was a nice visit and the students enjoyed hearing from the British member of our research team. He reflected on his Antarctic experience and the students asked him questions. They really enjoyed his visit.

How are you sharing your research experience with your colleagues, district, community, etc? 1. Considerable time has been spent with my mentees describing my experience. I broke it down into about a dozen focused sessions and we reviewed the journals and pictures. 2. Presentation to a class at a local college. 3. Presentations to various community organizations such as the Historical Society and church groups. 4. Presentation to a teachers organizations, Delta Kappa Gamma.

Purpose of Grant: Funds for grant were able to support workshops to train teachers in technology that was used specifically for polar learning.

I had approximately $10,000 dollars in shared costs last year in preparation for the trip, so this year I have nothing additional to add.

6. Anticipated TEA Involvement (01/2004 to 01/2005)


I am anxious to enrich my presentation program with video footage. I also want to increase my number of presentations. Since returning from my field experience, I have devoted my time to my mentoring commitments. This did not leave much time to conduct my own presentations. This coming year I hope to present to more schools and organizations. I would also still like to find time to organize a regional workshop.
