If all works out, one or two of them will travel here to work with my students for a week sometime this winter. We will focus on using photographs and weights collected during the field season to show how an algorithm will be developed to help predict seal weights from photographs. in addition, we talked briefly about developing a long-term collaborative effort between the seal project and a group of high school students that will receive data during upcoming field seasons. i will be talking with Bob Garrott this winter to see how we can pursue this project.

Other Classroom Connections: My 1st quarter reading group read South, Shackleton's journal from the Endurance. For their final project they created a board game that incorporated events from the book.

Prior to leaving for Antarctica I taught a 1/4 credit class for science/social studies credit about Antarctica. The class incorporated informal lecture with research assignments and student presentations and included following my journals once I was 'on the ice'.

While I was in Antarctica, interested students were given a passage to use that would guide them through following my journals and doing other antarctica-based activities to earn credit. On Monday morning 'all school' meetings students went over my journals from the previous week and generated a group email to send me with questions and comments.

4. Other TEA Activity Involvement

I am a 'co-host' of the ECW gear that is in our area.
