Additional Comments: Students from my class worked on an intensive interdisciplinary unit about polar research. Part of this project involved a "poster session" showcasing the research being done in polar regions by past and present TEA parcticipants. The Polar unit incorporated science, math, social studies, language arts, and art. Science involved investigating various research projects and creating a poster to reflect the research. We started a "Pond Probe" project that will establish a long term ecological study of a local pond in Rye - to mimic the investigations taking place in the Dry Valleys of Antarctica. Math class took the collected data from our studies as well as data (such as weather patterns) taken from the internet and graphed the results. Social studies investigated the Antarctic treaty, the native cultures of the Arctic, early exploartion maps/routes, and how communications have advanced over the years. Language arts class focused on the "Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner" and other polar stories.
