Field Experience

Continued Collaboration with Reasearch Team Members

Date: October 2001

Location: McElwain Elementary

Type of Interaction: Dr. Jim McClintock, a former TEA host researcher came to my classroom to share his slides with my students of his Antarctic research. Dr. McClintock also mentored me through the TEA application process.

I got the TEA!! The students listened to his presentation and asked many questions. Dr. McClintock and I both hope I get to go with him next year.

Classroom Transfer

How are you sharing your research experience with students? Currently, I am using the JASON XII "Frozen Worlds" curriculum as a base to tranfer the experience into the classroom. We have several field trips planned this year to conduct water quality testing in our watershed. We are also going to see the IMAX Shackleton. There is an Antarctic exhibit at our science museum now and we will be touring that. We have e-mailed several TEA's in the field, but have gotten no response.

Asked several questions about becoming a TEA. I told them to e-mail me any time they needed anything, had any questions, etc. Were excited about teaching about polar regions through the help of the Jason project.
