Continued Collaboration with Research Team Members

Type of Interaction / Outcomes / Dates / Locations / Parcticipants: 1. I spent one week in LaJolla at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography in May to meet with my PI, Dr. Jim Swift as well as several of the technicians that I worked with on the cruise this past summer.

2. Dr. Swift and I corresponded frequently via e-mail and the phone throughout the spring and early summer prior to our voyage.

3. I also corresponded by e-mail with other several members of the science team in preparation for our cruise.

How are you sharing your research experience with your colleagues, district, community, etc? 1. Arcticles appeared in our local paper as well as the school newspaper about my experience conducting oceanographic research in the Arctic and bringing what I learned back to not only my classroom but other classrooms in the school district too.

2. I parcticipated in a live power point presentation and phone conference on Aug. 13, 2003 involving 30 students in a Science and Math Camp for 7th and 8th graders at Salish-Kootenai College.

3. I plan to give numerous public presentations, teacher workshops, and district inservice during the spring of 2004.

Presentation Date, Title, Number of Attendees, Etc. 1. I parcticipated in a live power point presentation and phone conference on Aug. 13, 2003 involving 30 students in a Science and Math Camp for 7th and 8th graders at Salish-Kootenai College.

2. I have given 8 presentations to our school's Earth Science Classes (i.e. 8 classes, 175 mostly 9th grade students) and 2 more presentations to the World Geography classes (i.e. 2 classes, 48 9th and 10th grade students).

Other Classroom Connections: 1. So far only the presentations to the earth science classrooms. Our oceanography unit is planned for the spring quarter of 2004 which will include activities based on my TEA experience.

2. Many geography and earth science students have utilized my TEA website to complete course assignments and activity grades.

Following progress and corresponding with the other TEAs- parcticularly the Antarctic group- that are on their journeys.

Other Shared Costs

My school district has provided a stipend for professional development time for mentoring my colleagues at the rate of $20 dollars/hour. Thus, for 4 colleagues at a total of 16 hours, that's a total contribution by the school district of $320.
