How are you sharing your research experience with your colleagues, district, community, etc? Throughout the year I have given 8 slide show presentations to student/teacher or community groups. In addtion, I have developed several classroom activities which support the Calif Science Content Stantdards and infuse the research or experience of Antarctia. At several teacher workshop/inservices in our district, I have presented the classroom activities as an alternative to the textbook and a vehical which will encourage our students to pursue science fair projects. To facilitate the classroom acitivites, I wrote and received 2 grants ( total $7500) to purchase equipment for classroom. Activities Development

Title: Insulation Capacity of Snow

Description:
Using Hobo Data Loggers, students determine the insulation capacity of the snow. Data logger are buried at 10cm intervals in the snow and left for at least one week.

Title: Insulation Capacity of Various Clothing Materials.

Description:
Students wear data loggers under and on top of jackets made of different materials to compare their ability to keep us warm.

Title: How fast are you moving?

Description:
Students use GPS data to determine comparative movement of their location and plate, from the continent of Antarctica.

Other Classroom Connections: Wrote and received two grants ( total $8000) to create the Library of Loggers on Loan. Grants received from PG&E and California State Consumer Affairs Agency. 100 Loggers were purchased and used as classroom sets on loan to teachers in our district. Teachers use the activities I have developed, or their own, to help students create science fair projects.
