Continued Collaboration with Reasearch Team Members
Type of Interaction / Outcomes / Dates / Locations / Parcticipants:
At present I have established a connection with Richard Brandt who is working on his albiedo research in the Antarctic now. He is at Dome C and is presently constructing a tower to set up the instruments on. We are communicating by email and he is sending us journal entries which I am publishing on my website. My students are sending him questions and they are graphing his weather reports along side our local weather data.
Richard has visited our classrooms twice in as many years and has brought slide shows of the research experience.
The first year he was here (spring 2002), I also had a Nurse from the Air National Guard as a co-presenter. Students got two views of the Antarctic experience, research and support.(Note this was not a research team set up by the TEA program but one set up by myself because of my interest in the Antarctic.)
How are you sharing your research experience with your colleagues, district, community, etc?
1)I have given presentations to the Board of education, my science department members and the local press.
2)I have also organized a curriculum analysis to imput the TEA experience in our course work.
3)I have contacted the local hospital to set up a plan to track the physiological changes that one might undergo during the experience.
