Continued Collaboration with Reasearch Team Members
Type of Interaction / Outcomes / Dates / Locations / Parcticipants:
I am working with Dr.Kelly Falkner as part of a team to revise the "Oregon Ocean Book". I have used this book in my Ocenaography and Marine Biology courses in the past. In the spring of 2002 I attended a meeting in Corvallis to start preliminary discussions for a major revision / recreation of this book. I will be representing secondary education interests for the future use of this publication.
How are you sharing your research experience with your colleagues, district, community, etc?
No presentations this year. Six first grade classes scheduled for presentations January 27th.

Type of Interaction / Outcomes / Dates / Locations / Parcticipants:
We had once a month meetings on February 27th, March 20th, April 17th and May 21st in 2002. Each meeting was two hours in length and we rotated meetings among parcticipants' schools (Oregon City HS, West Linn HS, and Wilsonville HS). During meetings we discussed how use of sea floor mapping boxes went in some of the classes and continued to work on developing our mooring activity. We did not have any meetings during the summer, and have not had any yet this school year. We are planning to resume meeting this semester, starting in February.

Other Classroom Connections:
I continue to do presentations about the Healy trip and arctic research in my Oceanography and Marine Biology classes. During calendar year 2002, I have done five trip presentations (3 Marine Bio and 2 Oceanography)that gave an overview of the TEA program and what it was like being at sea and the basics of mooring and coring. We have used the sea floor mapping activity in both my Oceanogrpahy classes (big hit!). We have also used copies of journals to discuss uses of sediments and microfossils. The sea floor mapping boxes have also been used at West Linn High School by Jon Isensee's classes.

In 2003, I plan to finally get the sea floor mapping activity submitted online. I have it in a word file and simply need to transfer it.
I am scheduled to present to 6 first grade classes later this month and would like to do more.
I plan to present at our district inservice again this spring. I also plan to get the mooring simulation completed and a coring simulation started.
