I worked today on setting up some lab equipment that will be used in a few weeks to help extract and purify proteins from fish. We tried to go help pull up some large fish called Dissostichus Mawsoni, but it was too nasty out. A condition 1 was called as we were heading out- it wasn't possible to see more than a few feet in front of the vehicle. The temperature then was -24 C and wind chill -46 C, brrr. Condtion 3 is a good day here, condition 2 when visibility and/or temperatures are low. We checked fish in the aquarium and set lab equipment for the next few days, and spent time trying to get some digital pictures for the web site. I also called home today, which lifted my spirits- it's always good to talk to loved ones! It seems like we stay so busy that I haven't had a lot of time to think about missing home. We usually start work before 8:00 am and finish at 10:30 or 11:00 pm. Since it's still relatively light out when I go back to the dorm it doesn't seem so late!
