This is a copy of the map that we use when we head out to an island to dive for specimens. We are restricted to a 2-mile nautical distance from the station. The reason is safety. If an emergency comes up, it will be easier to send out a search and rescue party if we are only 2 miles from the station. Another safety reason is the constantly changing weather. If the seas get rough or the wind speed changes, we can return safely to the station quickly if we are no further than 2 miles away. I have been to Eichorst Island, Christine Island, Hermit Island, and Cormorant Island. I have been around Shortcut Island and Monday I will go to Norsel Point.
