How did your work with your team help you meet the professional growth goals you
set for yourself?
We all worked well together. My goal was to reach out to the elementary and middle grades to bring additional polar resources into their classrooms.
How did your work with your team impact your content knowledge and pedagogy?
They continually teach me new things! I have learned a great deal about age appropriate materials for grades 4-6, and I have picked up lots of good information from the two teachers who have been teaching polar units for some time.
What materials / resources / workshops did you
use / produce / host with your team members over the last year?
- We shared a number of arcticles we found and we have kept a bibliography of those sources.
- We reviewed the materials I purchased in Nome and I produced an annotated bibliography of those sources.
- We are currently planning a Big Kid - Little Kid Polar Event to coinncide with a visit by Dr. Jackie Grebmeier and Dr. Lee Cooper.
Based on the past year,
what ideas do you have to improve the effectiveness of
your team interactions?
- We are a great group and it is difficult to see how we could be more effective. Our biggest problem is finding the time to meet as we are all in different schools and we get out at different times.
Total hours of collaboration with each team member:
Peter Gustafson - 27 hours
John Gazo - 25 hours
Dana Cummings - 23.5 hours
Lynn Short - 14.5 hours - Note: Lynn has accepted a job in Maryland and will no longer be working with us.
Additional reflections:
It is extrememly difficult to accumulate hours despite the fact that we all want to meet! Two of the teachers with whom I am working are very active in local education groups and in community activities. Another is a young teacher from a district some distance away, and the 4th is leaving for Maryland.
