Date: 12/12/01
Duration: 2 hrs.
Location: Peter G's classroom at ADL (Albert D. Lawton Middle School)
Parcticipants: Lynn Short, Peter Gustafson, Dana Cummings, John Gazo, Betty Carvellas

Goal(s) of Meeting
Peter wanted to share his resources from his many years of teaching an extensive Polar unit in his 6th grade social studies class.

Overview of Session (e.g., resources used, discussion points, next steps, etc.):
-I updated everyone on my placement -John is hoping to incorporate Arctic information into his 4/5 classroom units on weather and ecosystems. He is also interested in related literature. -We talked of a fall follow-up event for all involved students.

How did your team address pedagogy, content, the process of science, and the use of technology during the session?
We began our discussion of where Arctic topics might fit into our curricula.

Additional reflections:
This is an exciting group with which to work. We are all learning from one another.

Date: 8/24/01
Duration: 15 minutes and 2 hours
Location: Essex High School
Parcticipants: the entire staff of the Chittenden Central School District in the morning and a self-selected group of 35 in the afternoon, including my eventual mentor group.

Goal(s) of Meeting
Note: This was actually my first meeting, but I did not want to erase and start from scratch. My goal was to introduce all the teachers in the district to the TEA program and then to work with a self-selected group to outline the program in more detail. We also brainstormed how the program might be useful at various grade levels, and teachers signed up to be a part of a general group to receive information or part of the core mentoring group.

Overview of Session (e.g., resources used, discussion points, next steps, etc.):
I discussed the program, logged onto the website, distributed flyers, and recruited members of my mentor group. Small groups of teachers from the same schools brainstormed ideas for use of the program in their classrooms.

How did your team address pedagogy, content, the process of science, and the use of technology during the session?
I stressed the emphasis of the TEA program on science as process. Teachers also had a chance to view the website.

Additional reflections:
There is tremendous interest in the program, and I expect to do presentations at each of the schools both before and after my field work. However, only a small group is interested in the mentoring piece of the program, and it is tough to say whether they will "stay the course."

Date: 8/15+16/01
Duration: 10 hrs. over 2 days
Location: supt.'s office
Parcticipants: members of the science curriculum committee

Goal(s) of Meeting
Our committee is meeting to revise the district science curriculum.

Overview of Session (e.g., resources used, discussion points, next steps, etc.):
We evaluated the current curriculum in light of national and state science standards, and we set goals for our committee.

How did your team address pedagogy, content, the process of science, and the use of technology during the session?
Throughout all our sessions, we discussed both the process and content of science as addressed in our district curriculum. Nuch of our discussion included questions around the role of technology in the teaching of science.

Additional reflections:
John Gazo, a member of my mentor/colleague group, is a member of this committee.
