We spent the entire meeting discussing possible events for the Big Kid-Little Kid Polar Event Day.

We discussed possible learning stations and the logistics of bringing elementary and middle school students to the high school.

We worked out the details of the four stations - food, scrimshaw "dog sled" relay, and science inquiry.

Goal(s) of Meeting
To socialize and bring together my mentor/colleague group and "my" research scientist. Dr. Lee Cooper, Jackie's husband and chief science on board the Healy during my TEA experience, also attended.

We had a great meal and great conversation!

I invited two colleagues who are not a part of my mentor group. They are adventurous travelers and they throroughly enjoyed the chance to meet two Arctic researchers.

Big Kid - Little Kid Polar Event at EHS.

Overview of Session (e.g., resources used, discussion points, next steps, etc.):
NEarly 300 students from grades 4-12 parcticipated in the events of the morning. Events included an introductory talk by Jackie and Lee, simluated "sled dog" relay races to symbolize the brining of life saving vaccine to Nome, AK, a culture station where students completed a reverse scrimshaw piece, a food station where students sampled typical native Alaskan foods, and a science station where students tested various insulating materials.

How did your team address pedagogy, content, the process of science, and the use of technology during the session?
In addition to the science content involved, the Big Kid-Little Kid connection provided a solid foundation for the day's activities.

Jackie and Lee showed a power point presentation and answered related questions. Since students had been at the Polar Event that morning, Jackie and Lee answered questions related to those activities.

Jackie and Lee spent the morning with my students, showing a power point and anwering questions.

Goal(s) of Meeting
Jackie and Lee spent the afternoon with all of Peter Gustafson's students and students from other classes at ADL. They did a power point presentation and answered related questions. These students had also attended the Polar Event thje previous day and they had several qeustions.

Goal(s) of Meeting
We reviewed our year's work and planned for next year.

Overview of Session (e.g., resources used, discussion points, next steps, etc.):
We hope to continue to meet next year to incorporate polar topics into our curriculum. John will continue to parcticipate even though he will be retired. He will provide support fo the teachers who take over for him.

How did your team address pedagogy, content, the process of science, and the use of technology during the session?
Our plan is for Dana, Peter, and I to translate my journals into a format that is accessible to 6th grade students.
