Mentoring Plan (Revised from Orientation)
Mentoring Plan

I. Professional Growth Goals: A.To create and facilitate a non- threatening, cohesive learning team. B.Promote and foster ongoing inquiry-based and research emphasized education.

C.Provide resources and encourage parcticipation from all team members and actively keep the lines of communication going.

I envision that this collaboration team will be beneficial to all members as long as the communication lines are kept open and every member stays in a comfort zone. Personally I feel that as a mentoring I will grow by gaining stronger leadership skills and gain valuable information and strategies from the other members by. This will be accomplished by continuing to stress that ALL team members have a shared part in the team and it’s direction.

II. Milestones: A. Periodically the team with evaluate what has been accomplished and amend our timeline or refocus our direction to better accommodate the needs of the team members and the whole team.

B. The team, at the beginning, will set a series of benchmarks to measure progress and outcomes.

C. Personally, I will monitor the team’s progress and ask for constant feedback from the team to assess whether or not my professional growth goals are being met.

D. Quarterly, my administrators will evaluate the progress of the team and myself in order to provide outside the team insights.

III. I already have a mentoring team in place consisting of six educators representing both public and private schools. The target range from my group is grades K through 6.

I wish to increase the team number by four more members by this fall by sending out a district wide invitation. The team can be divided into two groups, if needed, a core group and an associate group. The associate group would be for those members that may rotate in and out of the group and can constantly change. The core group will remain constant throughout.

IV. Each meeting will have a set theme from which the team will use to “launch” topics from. I have pre chosen many of the themes in order to provide a focused, well-rounded, experience. These themes include:

*Introduction to inquiry-based science *Introduction to field techniques and equipment use. *Integrating science into other subjects. *Aligning to the state and national education standards. *Identifying resources and funding for projects and ideas. *Shared Experiences-Platforms for Teaching & Learning. *Scientists at work and science at work. *Lesson and curriculum development.

All members of the team will have an active part in the selection of the topics within these themes.

I also intend to have the team members parcticipate in a “share fair” at the end of each year in order to highlight classroom successes that relate to our team.

V. First Session Draft: *Welcome & Introductions *Overview of the day’s events *Introduction to Goals and Commitment. *Questions, concerns and answer session. Break *My TEA experience and classroom applications. *Finding your niche and comfort zone, you don't don have travel to the Arctic to teach effective inquiry-based or research science *Brief introduction to Inquiry-based science and applying research in your classroom. *Questions, concerns and answer session. Break *Set possible schedules and topics for next meeting. *Fill out paperwork.

VI. Strategies for success:

· Be honest, sincere, and enthusiastic about the team · Remember not to overwhelm the group. · Be patient and compassionate. · Model expected behavior and expectations. · Guide members. · Be accessible to the team and individuals. · Allow each team member to find his or her comfort zone. · Be an active TEAM member!

VII. I have been fortunate to be selected to parcticipate in a variety of programs to develop leadership skills, mentoring, professional development program development and applying field studies and techniques in the classroom. I already have a state recognized program in place and nationally recognized projects. I have developed a large amount of materials and have collected many resources that I share with other educators. I’ve presented at over 50 conferences and have been able to give teachers a perspective of education nationwide along with a sense that they CAN be effective science educators.

I will, however, be working on my accessibility and communication skills a little more when it comes to my group. I can tend to get involved in my various projects a little too much.

I intend to facilitate the group in creating long-term goals and short-term goals for the team and for their own professional development, this includes myself too.
