Discuss what Inquiry based Learning means Go over a couple exerpts from "Inquiry-Based Learning and the National Science Standards" Begin to develop an inquiry based polar unit

Discussed Inquiry-learning, We had a bit of a stand still trying to think of the best ways to boil it down into a polar unit. I am going to look at the notes from the activities meetings to find some more ideas.

Refine plan for polar unit

Decided to make a polar based webquest to go with the weather book. Want to compare and contrast the Arctic and the Antarctic. Some discussion about making it an all-inclusive unit for all subjects, but finally came te the conclusion that that would not meet with distrcit goals and individualteacher preferences

As Karen and Roger couldn't be present, we brain stormed points of classroom transfer for before, during after my field experience and strategies for classroom transfer over the summer.

Become familiar with differnt webquests, and how to design them

We checked out other teachers webquests at www.webquest.org. We looked up a few polar resouces, but were unable to find sites we wanted to use. I think we are going to base the webquest on the unofficial site form my project. Note: need to get permission from DR. Clough

Roger, the "techi" of the group ran the meeting. We went to yahoo webpages and tried to lay the foundations for a webpage for our webquest. Had some trouble figuring it out and were not able to get more done that signing up.

Try to come up with a webquest plan

How did your team address pedagogy, content, the process of science, and the use of technology during the session?
Decided to have students research the website from the project and have students work in teams of 3 on each of the 3 hypothesis. Students will do a parallel project in their local communites. limitations, students will need acess to a local natural area, with a body of water. We are trying to overcome this limitation

Shifting our focus to my impending field experience and planning classroom transfer

Brain stormed ideas for classroom transfer. As I was going to be giving 5 audio presentations we decided that the only way feasable was to ask my partner teacher Veronica Leon to switch history with science for a week and parcticipate in the conference calls.

Continue to plan for the first field experience

Having met with the curriculum writer for Actic Alive this week we decided that we needed to have a plan for what science we will be doing on which days to plan curriculum. We decided to start with a basic overview of the Arctic and reserach that is beign done. We looked through "polar Press Clippings Books and found several to distribute through reading and language arts.

How did your team address pedagogy, content, the process of science, and the use of technology during the session?
We decided that we should make our lessons "process of science based" that is relate everything we do in the field to which part of the process of science it goes along with.

Last meeting before I go to visit my team in North Carolina, need to plan what information I need so that we can proceed planning concurent curriculum

>Brainstormed questions to ask >Discussed ideas to match curriulum >possible language arts connection- decided to approach principal for a classroom set of books to go along with experience. Looked through books online and in clasroom to make a decision. Karen offered to read through some at home as will Amie.

After I set up soup and salad for dinner, we discussed what I learned about my trip and my second meeting with the curriculum writer from Acrtic Alive who lives in the Chicago land area. We planned what the theme will be for each days broadcast, but decided to keep alternatives in mind as the field experience can vary based on weather and other factors. Mon. To install card for firewire, install software for video camera and learn to make movies for field experience

We install hardware and soft ware and used test footage to prepare movies, learned to use Pinnacle program for adding sounds, transitions and polishing finished image

>Went over trip highlights >We decided that we still wanted to plan inquiry based lessons to go with each of the science text. We are going to talk to the service center and see if they are interested in paying for curriulum. We thought the best idea was to plan one to present to Dr. Struck and Dr. Radokovich. >Decided time table to be delayed, Amie going in for surgery on the 12th and will not be back until October.
