How did your work with your team help you meet the professional growth goals you
set for yourself?
It gave me much more confidence as a teacher and it helped me realize the impact I can have on other teachers.
How did your work with your team impact your content knowledge and pedagogy?
I had to be much better informed with my colleagues thatn I am with my students. The mentoring required a deeper level of knowledge, which in turn required me to do further research on polar science and classroom activities.
What materials / resources / workshops did you
use / produce / host with your team members over the last year?
1. Packets of Internet research questions to be used by students.
2. A curriculum guide of easy elementary classroom activities.
3. Websites: TEA, ITASE, Glacier, Blue Ice: Focus on Antarctica.
4. Videos: Antarctica: Continent of Ice, Emperors of Antarctica
5. ECW gear
Based on the past year,
what ideas do you have to improve the effectiveness of
your team interactions?
Make more time for meetings, both in frequency of meetings and amount of time for each meeting. It will be helpful to meet mostly over the summer in that teachers have a hard time collaborating on curriculum development during the school year.
Total hours of collaboration with each team member:
10 each: Barbara Marin, Lydia Brashear
7: Marcia Alexander
Additional reflections:
I am having trouble generating continued interest after the first few meetings. Once they have the basic overview, the teachers have a tendency to want to implement activities and not go beyond that.
