How did your work with your team help you meet the professional growth goals you
set for yourself?
*one professional goal I have to is to be able to 'teach teachers' how to incorporate the 'doing' of science into the classrooms - I believe my work with other teachers has accomplished that and has also made me a better teacher of science
How did your work with your team impact your content knowledge and pedagogy?
*our team (BSSD) has switched over to 'standards based instruction' and are focusing on the Balanced Instructional Model of teaching. With those changes, and working with other teachers of BSSD, we are all becoming more proficient in the pedagogy of eductional methods.
What materials / resources / workshops did you
use / produce / host with your team members over the last year?
Based on the past year,
what ideas do you have to improve the effectiveness of
your team interactions?
*no ideas - my stumbling block is still that I have new 'mentees' every year, so that decreases any 'team' approach or consistency in changes. The motivation to set goals, etc, lacks because of the nebulous idea of 'next year'.
Total hours of collaboration with each team member:
Nicole Nowak- 30 hours
Eleanor Wirts - 5 hours
Shauna Robereson - 5 hours
Dana Brighton - 10 hours
Additional reflections:
My mentoring does not reflect the expectations outlined by the TEA program. With my limitations (teaching in the bush of Alaska), I have tried to reach people, although not always the same teachers. I feel I am fulfilling my role as a mentor and spreading my experience/knowledge as best as possible. Although not exactly the model collabortive scenario, I do believe we are and will continue to improve science education.
