How did your work with your team help you meet the professional growth goals you
set for yourself?
Through discussions with Jan about our work experiences;
development of Jan French's UV exposure activity;
development and implementation of inquiry class with Carolyn Rost;
development of Endurance related activities with both Carolyn and Jan;
planned PI's visit to make good use of her presence in our school.
How did your work with your team impact your content knowledge and pedagogy?
Discussed the science involved in our TEA experiences; learned very much about methods of inquiry from Carolyn Rost; incorporated new inquiry methods into standard biology lessons using data from Antarctic research;
understood the impact of my PI's visit on student attention.
What materials / resources / workshops did you
use / produce / host with your team members over the last year?
TEA website;
Inquiry workshop designed and facilitated by Carolyn Rost;
TEA orientation summer 2001
Based on the past year,
what ideas do you have to improve the effectiveness of
your team interactions?
Jan and I should have a regular meeting time. We tend to be improvisational and spur-of-the-moment. I think that we could plan more effectively if we were a bit more efficient.
Carolyn and I see each other every day and are able to meet fairly regularly during our plan period. We also frequent each other's classrooms which are next door to each other. We do need to be more focused. Both of us tend to work best under pressure.
Total hours of collaboration with each team member:
Carolyn Rost 37
Jan French 35
Additional reflections:
I still don't feel like I have good mentoring skills though I am becoming more comfortable with this position in my team. We have great ideas and I think that if I can get us organized, we can accomplish wonderful things!
