Goal(s) of Meeting to prepare me for the Frozen Weekend at the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History
Overview of Session (e.g., resources used, discussion points, next steps, etc.): 1. reviewed my presentation for interest, accuracy, tie-in to the Jason project.
2. discussed the hands-on activities that will be used at the weekend. These were not developed by us but certainly received much criticism because they did not address science!
How did your team address pedagogy, content, the process of science, and the use of technology during the session?

Overview of Session (e.g., resources used, discussion points, next steps, etc.): 1. determined that using live microorganisms is not feasible given our equipment (or lack thereof)
2. Used Biology Place for background information and activity
3. decided to introduce the topic with discussion of adaptive measures and evolutionary pressures

Goal(s) of Meeting 1. To write 2 proposals for NSTA 2003
Overview of Session (e.g., resources used, discussion points, next steps, etc.): 1. prepared a proposal for another TEA short course of polar activities.

How did your team address pedagogy, content, the process of science, and the use of technology during the session?
Additional reflections: Saying that we are going to come up with an activity and actually doing it are two different things! I suppose if our proposal is accepted, that will be the initiative that we need.

Overview of Session (e.g., resources used, discussion points, next steps, etc.): 1. Carolyn presented her proposed research on Lake Tanganyika
2. debated the pros and cons of developing a web site for her to put journals.
3. discussed how Carolyn's research could be correlated with my experience in Antarctica

Date: May 29, 2002
Duration: 4 hours
Location: mother of mercy hs

Goal(s) of Meeting 1. discuss Carolyn's trip to Africa and how we could possible unite our professional developement opportunities
Overview of Session (e.g., resources used, discussion points, next steps, etc.): 1. Tried to develop an activity that would include both of our research experiences.
2. Came up with more questions than answers...isn't that the way of science?
How did your team address pedagogy, content, the process of science, and the use of technology during the session?
Additional reflections: Carolyn and I would like to develop activities based on both of our experiences. She will be studying snails and biomass ( of material that gets a free ride on the backs of the snails). The best we have done thus far, is an activity that would involve graphing of data to illustrate the differences in the chemical aspects of tropical and polar lakes. It still needs a lot of work. Carolyn leaves shortly after school dismisses for the summer. We will continue discussing this when school resumes in the the fall.
