How did your work with your team help you meet the professional growth goals you set for yourself?
One of my goals is to continue to develop authentic ways for my students to use technology and the Internet within my curriculum to extend learning beyond the classroom. My team and I are just at the beginning stages of working together, but we have had many discussions about how my Antarctica experience can be used effectively to meet our curriculum requirements, state and national standards, and our district's "design qualities." It is a tremendous opportunity, but also a monumental task. Our discussions have been helpful in that they illustrate to each of us that we are all facing the same challenges, even though we teach at vastly different levels.

How did your work with your team impact your content knowledge and pedagogy?
Being the leader of the team, I feel a need to constantly examine my pedagogy and ask myself why I am doing things in a certain way, and would there be a better way to present the material. Many on my team are high school teachers, so I am enjoying the impact their knowledge has on me. I'm learning so much from them! It is wonderful to have an expert group to turn to as I develop activities. I am able to check the science behind the simulations, and discuss with them ways to improve them.

What materials / resources / workshops did you use / produce / host with your team members over the last year?
None--although we have begun to develop activities to use next year. We plan to present some at the March Institute Day for our district's science teachers.

Based on the past year, what ideas do you have to improve the effectiveness of your team interactions?
I plan to continue to do the things I have already instituted: 1. Have an agenda for each meeting and stick to it. We are all exhausted by the end of the day, and no one has time to waste. We start on time, and I move them through the agenda. 2. I created folders for each member that we add to now and then. They have the state and national standards, TEA info., examples of activities from the TEA site, etc. 3. I bring little gifts to keep them coming back! (Ex: gummi penguins; a CRREL pen; etc.)
