How did your work with your team help you meet the professional growth goals you
set for yourself?
This was not a very successful year with our original team. One member has since moved on and the remaining members have dropped their parcticipation to occasional meetings which no longer center on the Antarctica/TEA/field experience we had begun after my research experience. We still meet to write units, but most of the work focuses on district and state mandated curriculm and outcomes.
I did a lot of individual work to meet my goals for the work we began as I am in search of replacement mentees to continue making progress.
How did your work with your team impact your content knowledge and pedagogy?
The content knowledge I gained has come from working with teachers in my new district and members of our state science commmitee. We work to cordinate how I can become more useful as a resouce to classrooms that have curriclm content that relates to my field experience and resources with the polar emphasis. I have done in-services and workshops to facilitate this.
What materials / resources / workshops did you
use / produce / host with your team members over the last year?
Antarctica Trunk: used at all workshops and in-services
AMNH Antarctica - presented how it was used in my classroom at two different in-services
Seals and Penguins Workshop - Instuction and activities relating to primary grades study of these animals
Antarctica Adaptations - activities and introduction to TEA website for classrooms to follow as part of their curriculm, most teachers were elementary level
Based on the past year,
what ideas do you have to improve the effectiveness of
your team interactions?
I will begin to look for a better way to be a mentor. With the loss of two of my original three members it has been difficult to focus on just the mentor aspect. I have reached out to more indivduals for less collaboration than my required but well enough collaboration to make up and get the TEA message around the school districts in my area.
Total hours of collaboration with each team member:
Lisa Klosner - 33 hours, in 2002
Carol Clark - 42 hours, in 2002
Additional reflections:
This has been a strong year of trying new ways to get the TEA program introduced into schools. It has been extremely beneficial to educate teachers to following the teacher-reseachers in the field. I have set a goal in the coming year to get teachers in this area on board as TEA Associates.
