How did your work with your team help you meet the professional growth goals you set for yourself?
I worked with my team on my return from the field in stimulating student interest in research. Our field trips together and our preparation for the statewide science conference provided new ideas and focused ourselves on collaborative projects with students.

How did your work with your team impact your content knowledge and pedagogy?
I learned more about scientific inquiry. Students gave many research talks and this allowed me to see how they posed their own questions. We as a team, listened to many talks from students regarding their research and helped them to better prepare. My knowledge base in diverse areas has increased because of it.

What materials / resources / workshops did you use / produce / host with your team members over the last year?
We hosted the Oregon Science Teachers Association meeting in October. In this we planned several workshops on science research for our colleagues. We also got together for an entire week in Eastern Oregon doing research in Astronomy and Archeology.

Based on the past year, what ideas do you have to improve the effectiveness of your team interactions?
I feel the best thing to do is to define a common prep hour with the help of the administration. That way we can meet every day to exchange ideas. We were able to do this partly this year and it was very effective in saving time.

Total hours of collaboration with each team member:
Steve Holman 60 hours Graham Dey 60 hours Chasity Malatesta 60 hours

Additional reflections:
the most exciting thing is to see how many kids have been wanting to take our science research class. I honestly believe that by having teachers truly excited about real research that this catalizes students imagination and trust in themselves to pursue difficult topics. We have kids now looking at ice cracks in Europa to kids building nitinal powered submarines. this is what every science teacher wants, and I am proud that my Antarctica experience has brought with it additional grants and resources for these kids. Finally, the best thing of all personally was to be front page center on the sunday paper, everyone in the community of 200,000 people now recognizes the efforts I have made for education. TEA was the best experience ever.
