Prior to departing to Partners in Science conference we discussed connections that could be made at the conference that could facilitate teaching lessons. Especially in the area of chemistry and biology.

We talked about various curriculum ideas and how to integrate them.

Write the Meyer Memorial Grant

Overview of Session (e.g., resources used, discussion points, next steps, etc.):
We brainstromed writing ideas for the Meyer Memorial Trust. A 5,000 grant that will bring us mentors into the elementary schools to teach lessons on Antarctica.

We talked about grant strategies, how to combine three different grants and what equiipment we needed to buy.

We reviewed Science catalogs, and looked at new science equipment.

We wanted to get more information on Aquariums, Solar Scopes and UV meters. We set out a purchase list.

we reviewed catalogs specific to our curriculum content areas.

Chillin with Mike workshop.

Overview of Session (e.g., resources used, discussion points, next steps, etc.):
We discussed how to transfer ideas while I am in Antarctica. This was a two day workshop that was supported by my district. Additionally several other teachers were present. Including Sue Smith, Maureen Foelkl, Jan Olinger and others. These elementary teachers were responsible for lessons in their classrooms.

How did your team address pedagogy, content, the process of science, and the use of technology during the session?
We discussed many ideas on long distance learning, including the use of web cams.

I was amazed my district supported this project after they tried to keep me from going to Antarctica.

we did not.

Additional reflections:
This actually was a process of many smaller meetings that occured before the end of school. It was easier for me to group this as one meeting for purposes of this report.

Goal(s) of Meeting
Organizing of Antarctica Night, a community presentation with guest speakers.

Overview of Session (e.g., resources used, discussion points, next steps, etc.):
My community, parents, teachers, and students got together to present Antarctica night at my school. We needed to commmunicate as a mentor group to make this work. Each teacher of my team did a lot of work to make this happen, including preparing a presentation of their own work. This was a great community success.

How did your team address pedagogy, content, the process of science, and the use of technology during the session?
We had many discussions with students on how to use the firewall of our district. Communicating from Antarctica with low band width hampered what we could do live.
