How did your work with your team help you meet the professional growth goals you
set for yourself?
Meeting with my team has still been difficult, but an easement came with professional release time from my school. My goals were meet because I am finding more acceptance from the team members towards the completion of the required hours. The change in attitude occurred when they realized that the entire focus did not have to be integrating polar science into the classroom. Rather, it was to promote professional development and the integration of research into the classroom. This realization came from open discussions with each other.
How did your work with your team impact your content knowledge and pedagogy?
It allowed me to gain insight into other science disciplines. Furthermore, it gave me an opportunity to look more at standards and how we as a department could align our curriculum.
What materials / resources / workshops did you
use / produce / host with your team members over the last year?
April visitation from Jim Madsen.
Prepared the materials for my presentation at the NSTA Western Conference in New Mexico.
Prepared materials for Antarctic presentation at Multicultural Day.
Based on the past year,
what ideas do you have to improve the effectiveness of
your team interactions?
I am going to try and get us all together for a few days at the NSTA National Convention so we can start working on integrating Standards and Research into all of our classrooms.
Total hours of collaboration with each team member:
78.0
Additional reflections:
The mentoring hours are still challenging to complete. I believe they take away from the other positive aspects of the program.
