Wrote up/corrected unit plans for Exploration
Men at Work Unit- planned out career day BTE- list of possible jobs, general schedule, and invitation. Research careers in engineering verses famous people in English and science. Math adding career component to flip book.
American Dream- Amy doing transporation aspect- land, air, and sea
FCAT- state science test. Where we are good/where we need help. Shelbi and Amy planned a important meeting with Guy
Resources: computer, Inter-act simulation, TEA orientation materials
How did your team address pedagogy, content, the process of science, and the use of technology during the session? We spent a long time discussing our upcoming state test and the needed changes to ensure progress. Linda (former math department chair) had a lot of good points as math has been tested on FCAT for some time. Debated the issue of teaching integrated science verses separate life, earth, and physical. Pros and cons to both. We have been in a struggle to teach our engineering benchmarks and theme and still teach to the state standards.
Science department must meet as a team and really go over what we have done and zoom in on our gaps. Even if it means changing the grade wide strands...
Use of technology- only talked how we want to display kid's websites during research station BTE, and possible technology needed for upcoming career day.
Additional reflections: Good day- felt good to discuss some of the problems that we are having within the science department and hopefully have some ways to make improvements.
