Shackleton! / Dinos on Ice / NOVA / Dome C Research

Dear Friends:

We've launched the website for "Revelations In the Ice Shackleton's Legacy: Antarctica Today". It will be the plug-in site for the Feb. 26th Web cast of "Dinosaurs On Ice" with NSF P.I. William Hammer, Augustana College and a LIVE connection to McMurdo Station, Antarctica.

We hope you will assist the NSF in promoting the event at your location(s) by circulating the URL among interested teachers, friends and colleagues. The Maryland Science Center event, Feb. 26th, is open to public parcticipation - especially to those in the Washington-Baltimore corridor.

Thanks to all who assisted in producing this website.

Here's the URL. http://www.nsf.gov/od/lpa/events/shackleton/start.htm

From Betty Carvellas:

NOVA has an upcoming program called Mountain of Ice. It's scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11. The

description says "NOVA follows a group of explorers and scientists as they scale Vinson Massif, Antarctica's highest peak, colledting snowfall data along the way to help determine Antarctic ice flow."

From Andy Sajor

Richard Brandt, is now at Dome C setting up his tower to do his research, he is working with Steve Warren on project OO-201-O in a collaboration with Michel Fily of LGGE Grenoble to measure the radiative properties of the snow surface at Dome-C Station for climate studies and satellite sensor validation. I have been hosting his journal entries to my students on my home page and we have just added photos of his tower work. ( <http://www.perucsd.org/hsearthscience/Richpix.htm>http://www.perucsd.org/hsearthscience/Richpix.htm ) Since this is an Italian/French station there is a different flavor that comes through in his journal. <http://www.perucsd.org/hsearthscience/These are the dispatches.htm>http://www.perucsd.org/hsearthscience/These%20are%20the%20dispatches.htm
