In each section of these Web pages, some topic-specific funding opportunities have been identified. Following are several broad funding programs / institutions that may help support the outreach component of your polar research program.

Office of Polar Programs
The Office of Polar Programs often contributesto polar educational outreach efforts. These can be "stand-alone" projects, or integrated into a research proposal. If you have an idea, or are looking for ways to integrate outreach into your project, contact your program officer.

The Division of Elementary, Secondary, and Informal Education (ESIE)

    Postdoctoral Fellowships In Science, Mathematics, Engineering And Technology Education (PFSMETE)
    ".....The National Science Foundation (NSF) recognizes that Ph.D. graduates in science, mathematics, engineering and technology (SMET) must help the Nation in addressing challenging issues in education across a broad spectrum of institutions and educational levels. NSF anticipates that, in the future, growing numbers of these graduates will assume leadership roles in contributing to the Nation's education enterprise ...... The PFSMETE program is aimed at recent Ph.D. graduates in science, mathematics, engineering or technology and seeks to draw broadly on the diversity of talent available in the U.S. population. Goals include:
  • to prepare Ph.D. graduates in science, mathematics, engineering and technology with the necessary skills to assume leadership roles in SMET education in our Nation's diverse educational institutions, and
  • to provide opportunities for outstanding Ph.D. graduates to develop expertise in a facet of science education research that would qualify them for the new range of educational positions that will come with the 21st century......"
  • Chautauqua Short Courses "..... are an annual series of forums in which researchers meet intensively for several days with undergraduate college teachers of science. The series is held at colleges and universities throughout the United States as well as at selected special sites. These forums provide an opportunity for invited scholars to communicate new knowledge, concepts, and techniques directly to college teachers in ways which are immediately beneficial to their teaching. The primary aim is to enable undergraduate teachers in the sciences to keep their teaching current....."

    IDEA Grants / Other NASA Educational Funding Programs
    ".....The Initiative to Develop Education through Astronomy and Space Science (IDEAS) is a grant program which funds START-UP educational outreach projects that team educators with scientists......The objective of the IDEAS program is to provide grants that will enhance science education through astronomy and space science via collaboration between scientists and educators......"
