ECW Gear

Several sets of ECW gear are available to share within the TEA community.

To arrange for a set to use in a presentation, please contact the gear scheduler in your region well in advance of the planned presentation. The scheduler will reserve the gear for you. If there is a scheduling conflict, you can contact the scheduler in another region; note that TEAs in each region have priority over out-of-region TEAs. (Note: "Alternates" will assume responsibility for the gear and schedule if the primary scheduler is not available to curate for an extended period of time).

Because these sets are to share, you cannot block months of time to use the gear. We do, however, recommend that you arrange a block of presentations in which you wish to use the gear and schedule well in advance of those presentations.

TEAs using the gear are responsible for covering the insured shipping to and from their school, unless the scheduler wishes the gear to reside with the user until the next appointment. The scheduler will maintain the gear reservation list and will know the status of the gear at all times.

Through the support of the NSF and Raytheon Polar Services several sets of extreme cold weather gear were provided to TEA teachers to use for presentations related to their polar research experiences. A TEA curator maintained each set of gear. In 2004, with the understanding that the gear would stay in teacher circulation, the NSF decided to consider the ECW gear issued to each TEA regional representative as a permanent loan.
