TEA Time Line


TEA often is viewed as a longer-term investment than other Teacher Enhancement programs. The research experience, which forms the central component of the program, offers many opportunities for continued sharing and outreach. The following is a general time line for TEA activities.

Year One
  • Early Summer - notification of parcticipation! Present your upcoming experience to your district, school, classroom, community, etc. to build a local Polar Learning Community that will follow your adventure.

  • Late Summer - attend orientation workshop.

  • Begin to assemble your mentoring team; start investigating ideas for bringing polar research and the experience of research into the classroom.

  • Late Fall / Early Winter - TEA/Researcher matches made; initial contact with team to learn about research and plan institution visit and field season. Collaborate to design supplemental budget for your research experience.

  • Spring (Arctic) - meet with research team at research institution. Gear up your mentoring team for your field experience.


  • Year Two
  • Summer (Antarctic) - meet with research team at research institution. Gear up your mentoring team for your field experience.

  • Summer (Arctic) or Fall/Winter (Antarctic) - parcticipate as a team member of a field research party; communicate daily with classrooms, students, mentor team, community, etc. via electronic journal and q/a. Parcticipate in RealAudio Broadcast, send digital images if available.

  • Return from Field - Present your experience to your local Polar Learning Community.

  • Collaborate with mentor team to continue to transfer the research experience and experience of research.

  • Get photos, slides, and video to the archive with captions for images.

  • Invite researcher to visit your classroom.


  • Year Three
  • Spring - attend NSTA and present experience, "work" the booth.

  • Summer - attend orientation workshop and act as a mentor to new TEA (invitational).

  • Summer - attend activities workshop and design classroom materials for on-line presentation.

  • Fall - Finish activities with the review of the Editorial Board.

  • Continue to collaborate with research team; work with data, prepare papers, collaborate on activities.

  • Continue to share your experiences with your mentor team, school, district, classroom, community.



  • Year Three And Beyond
  • Continue involvement in the TEA Program through attending workshops and meetings, parcticipation on the Advisory Board and Editorial Board, leading efforts of mentoring and classroom transfer, hosting TEA and TEA Associates meetings, etc. There is room for growth and innovation - if you see a new way to be involved - please explore it!

  • Continue to collaborate with research team; work with data, prepare papers, collaborate on activities.

  • Continue to share your experiences with your mentor team, school, district, classroom, community.




  • Involvement in TEA
