This is the "chalet" and outhouse at Cape Bird. The area surrounding the hut is all volcanic cinder. The hut is located on a shelf overlooking the ocean and some small Adelie sub-colonies. The hut is run by New Zealand, and housed a variety of people working on everything from mosses and tiny invertebrates to glaciology.
