Give the kids a somewhat off the wall task, design insulated long underwear for a trip to Antarctica. Allow them to brainstorm about what might be needed; allow them to design protocols to test their idea; allow them to apply what they known and allow them to learn what they do not know and allow them to work together in finding the missing pieces to the puzzle.

Peter Amati did field research, studying sea ice in the Weddell Sea, during the months of May and June 1992,. Remember this is winter in Antarctica! Please note, clothing was more than adequate, no body parts were lost.
