Hook
Ask students the question: How does a polar bear keep warm when it is cold? Students write their name and predicition on a sheet of paper and put in their science journal (to be used to compare prediction with what they find out during the lesson). The students listen to a narrative text (fiction) with a polar bear as a character.Use your polar bear model/puppet (that you make following directions below) or have a stuffed toy polar bear while you are reading the story. (suggestion: Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear? by Bill Martin and illustrated by Eric Carle is a good story for younger students
