Type of Interaction / Outcomes / Dates / Locations / Parcticipants: Cooperative efforts with research team included grant proposal and procuring equipment. I provided some supporting information about outreach for Bob Hawley's grant proposal to NSF. Bob helped me use grant funds to purchase an LCD projector for my classroom.

Type of Presentation: 7th grade class

Content: Used a powerpoint presentation, maps, and ECW gear to introduce students to Antarctica and polar research.

Outcomes: Students seemed to enjoy the presentation.

Type of Presentation: 3rd grade classes

Content: Used a powerpoint presentation and the ECW gear to share my experiences in Antarctica.

Outcomes: Students had studied polar wildlife and they showed a high level of interest and enthusiasm. Students requested the TEA web address so they could explore the website at home.

Other Classroom Connections: I continue to use Antarctica and polar science as a central theme in my science courses. Weather and climate, astronomy, astrobiology, physics, and oceanography are all topics that can be explored using the polar regions. My students enjoy the opportunity to follow the experiences of TEAs in the field. Many of them communicate with the teachers by e-mail. We parcticipate in occasional realaudio sessions.

4. Other TEA Activity Involvment


Presentation w/ Sandi Kolb at the NSTA Convention on March 28th in San Diego, CA. TEA Program and TEA Field Experience Promoted the TEA Program, use of the TEA website, polar field experiences with its transfer to classrooms, discussed and provided TEA Program materials and teaching activities including the TEA Associate sign-up sheet.
