Learning to be Prepared!
It?s day four of our orientation-training program at
the US Army Cold Regions Research & Engineering
Laboratory (CRREL) in Hanover, New Hampshire and I can
think of only one word to describe the past 24 hours -
WOW!
Our preparation continues for our upcoming polar
experiences with a variety of interesting lectures and
group discussions.
On Wednesday our orientation included topics on
journaling by Priit Vesilind, a freelance photographer
and former National Geographic writer and capturing
good images in the field by Peter Keene, CRREL
photographer. Past TEA?s and researchers gave us even
more valuable information based on their experiences.
On Thursday we went through a Field Safety Training
and Survival orientation from Brian Horner, LTR
Training Systems titled ?Learn to Return?. The course
included techniques on basic survival under Arctic
conditions. Topics included frostbite prevention, knot
tying, emergency shelter construction, clothing, fire
building, emergency medical treatment, rations and
equipment.
Polar regions are harsh environments for visitors to
work in and being prepared for a variety of situations
is extremely important. For more information on Arctic
Safety & Survival see www.survivaltraining.com
Just two more days of orientation!
TEA teachers Amy Stoyles, Bradenton, FL. and Lars Long,Eau Claire, WI. practice first aid procedures. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? HotJobs - Search Thousands of New Jobs http://www.hotjobs.com
