Tomorrow I leave for Antarctica!
Last night I spoke to a friend from elementary school who has been to
Antarctica twice. She lives in Alaska now and is a biologist for Alaska
Fish and Game. One of my favorite pieces of advice that she gave me was:
"You can sleep when you get home!"
In other words, make the most of your precious time in this amazing
place!
There's a lot to do to get ready, including packing, tying up loose
ends, spending time with my husband and my mom, and making sure to
enjoy the warm weather a little bit.
There are quite a few things to pack. The U.S. Antarctic Program (USAP)
sent out a Parcticipant Guide, which I used to help me decide what to
take. I need lots of layers, sunglasses with 100 percent UV protection,
sunscreen, and more, such as....
1. "Boots or shoes..." OK!
2. "Swimsuit.." OK........
3. "Holiday attire......." Hmm...If my plane is delayed, I might be there on Halloween. Better safe than sorry!
