13 March, 2002Weather Sunny, High 19, Low -10 Poker Flat Research Range Poker Flat Research Range (PFRR), located 30 miles NE of Fairbanks, Alaska is the worldís only rocket launching research site owned by a university. Managed by the Geophysical Institute-University of Alaska Fairbanks, Poker Flat is a site used for various studies in atmospheric, auroral, physical, environmental, aeronautical science, and of course lake ice. Located within the range, MST pond and two secondary sites (31.6-Mile and 33.5-Mile ponds) are safe from snow machines and pedestrians.
