The Science Behind Temperature Gradient, continued
To review, temperature gradient is the difference between surface and
base temperatures divided by snow depth. Steep slope indicates
higher heat flux. Temperature gradient depends on three factors:
surface temperatures, snow depth, and snow density. See below some
diagrams illustrating all these variables.
