Alice Doyle works out on the back deck. There is still a lot to do before we get to Chile.
Packaging samples to be shipped back to the University of Maine for carbon isotope dating. Samples of Kasten cores are put in beakers in an oven at 100 C (212 F) for 24 hours. Then they are cooled and put in bags. Hopefully, from these samples Tom Kellogg will be able to tell when the glacier, and then the floating ice shelf, retreated from the location of the core. They are dried mud, but very special dry mud!
