Those who adjusted to the boats' constant rolling spent time at the
computer labs writing e-mail and reviewing papers. Others were up in the
lounge watching movies. Some people read and others worked in their labs
getting ready. The only labs that were active during the crossing were the
bio lab, where Natalie and I were doing our water sampling at each degree
of crossing. It's been a long time since I had done this and I must say I
was nervous. In short order I was confident with the work. What surprised
me the most was the phosphorescence of the diatoms I was examining (what is
a diatom?).
