The crossing
All was well enough when we left Hobart. There was a perfect blue sky and
the waters were calm. It was a perfect start. It wasn't long before the
calm seas were only a memory. By nightfall the waves were crashing over the
deck. As a result of my seasickness, I was barely seen for two days,
crawling out of my bunk only of necessity. It wasn't till the third day
that the motion sickness didn't dominate my being.
Captain Joe said the crossing was smooth compared to what it could be. I
figured out how to climb the 5 flights of stairs to the bridge with little
effort by just waiting for the waves to lift the ship, then climb as it
was going back down (why would this work?). By the end of the week most of
the team started to show their faces.
